About Us

BCADV is a group of folks that ride and hang out in the real world. We’re all volunteers with lives, jobs, families, hobbies, and personal struggles. The goal of this club is to build a real world, engaged community as opposed to an online social media group. While many of us ride ADV and dual sport bikes, it’s unsurprising that in our geographic area, many of us are also mountain bikers, skiers, and so on. We get out a lot, and have quite a bit of overlap in other hobbies/pursuits.

The idea for BCADV started in early 2024 after Gino – aka Mule Barn – had spent winter in Tucson, and rode with a number of people from an ADV group down there.. As he was thinking about coming home in the Spring, he wanted to find other riders in Boulder to share two-wheeled adventures with, but there wasn’t a truly local ADV group. After a few posts on social media, the first BCADV hangout was held at Upslope Brewing on a freezing evening on February 26, 2024. In attendance were Gino Zahnd, Rich Strauss, Paulo Briggs, Chris Legault, and Gino’s wife Starla. Five strangers shared a beer, got to know a bit about each other, and had a few laughs along the way. By April, we screened the NorCal BDR film at Upslope and about 40 people showed up that night. The club was officially underway. The first “official” club ride was comprised of Gino and Paulo heading out on a crisp March day, but were turned back by snow, and maybe frostbite…

Fast forward a couple of years, and we’re now nearly 200 active members. We put on more rides than we can count, we teach classes, we give back to the community, we do bigger multi-day trips a few times a year, and meet up at least monthly year-round just to be together, talk motos, and shoot the shit.

At the beginning of 2026, we became a 501(c)(7) non-profit social club because we wanted to lay the foundation for something that can continue the momentum we have for many years into the future. Now, BCADV isn’t dependent on one or two people – it’s made up of its active members. Hopefully we’ll be around for the next generation of riders in and around Boulder County. It all depends on the community.

As of 2026, our Board of Directors is Gino Zahnd, Rich Strauss, Chris Munro, and John Cole. You can easily find us all in The Forum.
